Materials and Techniques: Shane Dorey works from a 2,000-degree furnace, combining a strong foundation in traditional glassblowing with a highly sculptural, illustrative approach. Each piece is shaped entirely by hand, using a wide range of specialized tools to guide the molten glass from broad, sweeping forms to intricate, lifelike details. Large elements are shaped at the furnace, while a hand torch is used to refine textures and add precision. Shane builds his vivid surfaces by layering frits and powders, often incorporating dichroic glass and cane to create depth, color variation, and dynamic light play. His mastery of both form and finish allows each sculpture to emerge with a sense of movement, character, and vitality.
