Rachel Purtell

Bio for Website: Rachel is an artist who paints from experience, feeling and a sense of wonder. Her work is inspired by nature, animals and whimsy. She paints intuitively, letting feeling and memory guide each piece, often returning to themes of dreamscapes and native animals. Through her work, Rachel aims to create paintings that feel calm, thoughtful and inviting, helping views slow down and enter a dream.

Materials and Techniques: I create my art in my art studio after being inspired by nature from travel, music and memory. I start with gallery wrapped canvas and add a white gesso paint layer, then burnt umber, and then multiple layers with a paint sponge to make a dreamy background. After that, I add small details and finish my painting and seal with a gloss varnish.
